Redland Highland Gathering

The Annual Redland Highland Gathering is being held this year on Sunday 1st August 2010, at Judy Holt Park, Randall Road, Birkdale.

The Redland Highland gathering event starts at 10:30.

Events will include:

  • The Redland City South Queensland Pipe Band Championships
  • The Bay Island Highland Dancing Titles
  • The Highland Games Championship
  • A Medieval Tournament by the Knights Order of Lions Rampant
  • Haggis sampling

Admission is $5 for Adults and free for under 12′s.

  • The Queensland Pipe Band Championships with bands gathering from near and far to battle for supremacy across all grades.
  • The Drum Majors Championship which is always a crowd pleaser.
  • Massed bands display that will stir your blood.
  • Highland Games including Foot Races for all ages, Caber Toss, Hammer Throw and Haggis Hurl will challenge all who enter.
  • Scottish Highland Dancing is one of the oldest forms of folk dance and Dancers from the Society’s Academy of Highland Dancing will give several Choreographed performances. Under the guidance of Champion Dancer Sue Relph, the nimble feet and rhythmic routines of these talented dancers are sure to delight.
  • The Address to the Haggis will occur in a ceremony that combines drama, humour and spectacle.
  • Sheep dog trials have been organised for your entertainment.
  • The Border Collies of Redlands Dog Obedience Club will put on displays.
  • Scottish stalls will showcase kilts, accessories, regalia, craft and more. Patrons can trace their tartan, explore their genealogy or learn about Scottish history & folklore.
  • A variety of food and beverage will be available throughout the day including sausage sizzle, Scottish Pies, sandwiches, snacks, drinks and ice creams in the grounds, and haggis, hot chips and counter meals from the Multi-Sports Club.
