Changes to Hazard Perception Test in Queensland

Queensland Hazard Perception Driver Test

From 29 March 2021, all Queensland learner licence holders must pass the hazard perception test before upgrading their licence.

You will need to pass the new hazard perception test (and pay the fee) to progress from a P1 licence to a P2 or open licence.

The cost of the Hazard perception test is currently $21.30.

You will be able to take the hazard perception test from Monday, 29 March 2021.

You can do the test as many times as you need until you pass the test, however you can only do the test once a day. You only need to pay for the test once—when you pass.

It is an online test, it is NOT taken at a customer service centre. It will take approximately 15 minutes to complete, but you should allow yourself up to 45 minutes to watch the instruction video, complete the practice test, etc.

Current learner licence holders

Before Thursday 1 July 2021, if you have your learner licence, you can choose to take the hazard perception test before or after your practical driving test.

From Thursday 1 July 2021, you will need to have passed the hazard perception test before you can take your practical driving test.

Learner licence holders can take the hazard perception test once they have held their licence for at least six months.

Current P1 licence holders

Before Monday 29 March 2021, if you hold a P1 licence, you are required to pass the hazard perception test before you can upgrade to a P2 or Open licence.

You need to hold your P1 licence for a minimum of 12 months before you will be eligible to take the hazard perception test.
